baby blanket

lullabies
softly at night
thick blanket for weight
holding body down
don’t fly off this Earth now

after the fourth cycle
giant brown bear, large as life
chasing me
wielding a knife
edge sharp as sleep paralysis

I had a bear like that once
limps cradled close
baby girl child under pink ruffles

the things that once provided protection
power play
comes back to haunt with vengeance

off-white quilted blanket
torn to the fringes
I fought through the trenches with you
secrets I keep
seamed down, soaked in
how much better, how much worse
to shed this weight off…
