Walk On

I once stood under a night sky
black black black
staring at oncoming headlights
fuzzy yellow – distortion

wet cheeks again, making rain
cool down a heart already
shriveled to the bones
shaky footsteps – implosion

If the horns were blaring, i
couldn’t hear it
sweet fear, thick as molasses
bright light – conclusion

couldn’t move
knew if I’d just cross the street
everything will be ok
gone, forgotten – cessation

couldn’t move
fetal position, seek the shelter
connection long severed
sharp incisions – sedation

couldn’t move
world came crumbling down
and yet again still, I
had no say
